About

“8 Marzo “ Technical Institute

“8 MARZO” Technical Institute was born in 1979 when the two vocational schools of Mestre, A. Gramsci Technical Institute and G. Massari Technical Institute for Surveyors, merged their branch sites in Mirano. Since the very beginning 8 Marzo Institute represented the non-academic tertiary education and training segment, answering the enterprises’ demand of surveyors and administrative accountants, accountant programmers (1981) and experts in the tourist industry (2000).

During the years the Institute expanded significantly according to the local area growing need for experts in the tourism industry. New programmes for the study of foreign languages have been activated including extra European languages. Chinese and Russian are now taught besides English, French, Spanish and German. The commercial and the surveyor pathways have been updated and improved and new training workshops keep students posted on the technological development occurred in the tourism industry.

All the administrative offices, including the School Manager office and the Director of General Administrative services one, are located on the first floor of 8 Marzo Institute. The offices are open every morning from Monday to Saturday as well as in the afternoon from Tuesday to Friday. In this main plant students attend all the classes of the technical economic sector (tourism, administration, finance and marketing) and also of the technology sector (construction, environment and territory).

“K. Lorenz” Vocational Institute

The Vocational Institute for Agriculture opened at Peseggia di Scorze in  1965, resulting from a coordinated section of the Agricultural Institute of Castelfranco Veneto. In 1968 the headquarters moved to Villa Bianchini at Zianigo di Mirano.

After several seat transfers inside the Municipality, in 1988 the Agricultural Institute  of Mirano became independent from the Institute of Castelfranco with the name of “Konrad Lorenz”. From 1999 to 2013, following a national plan for the rationalisation of school facilities,  K. Lorenz Institute represented the agricultural section associated with the industry and trade section of the new “Ponti-Lorenz” Institute. The technical agrarian pathway was activated in 2007.

The primary objective of the Institute was to raise awareness of the world of agriculture and to enhance the skills acquired through active learning (learning by doing). As the creation of the educational farm attested, alternating school to work experiences has always been considered crucial to overcome the separation between knowledge and know-how. The farm was renovated and enlarged with the opening of the new agrarian company in the Forest of Parauro, near the Hospital of Mirano in 2009. Here students carry out educational activities in the classroom and they attend workshops in the open air or in the greenhouses.

In the K. Lorenz Institute students attend all the classes of the technical pathway in the technology sector (agriculture, agro-industry and agribusiness) as well as the classes of the business path in the services sector (services for agriculture and rural development).

“8 Marzo-K.Lorenz” resources

All the classrooms are equipped with IWB (interactive whiteboard) to allow innovative and interactive teaching. Besides, there are special classrooms for the different subject areas: computer labs, language, design and drafting, chemistry, physics, gyms, sciences and microbiology. The two sites are provided with both a library and a teacher’s room.
The materials testing laboratory is situated next to 8 Marzo school to provide services to third parties. The rural company is located in the nearby of K. Lorenz institute and it is open to the public. The two laboratories represent important examples of the institute interaction with the territory and the local community. They are places where students are given the opportunity to broaden and deepen their industry expertise.

The class schedule is set by taking into account the ministry guidelines, the students’ needs, the availability of laboratories and gyms and the opportunity to distribute the schedule of the different disciplines throughout the day in order to facilitate a successful teaching-learning process.
